Enjoying Wine In Paris

O

ne of the amazing things about wine, is that a memory of a place or time can be so closely associated with the wine you were served. One of my fondest memories of wine, occurred on my first trip to Paris.

I had the opportunity to lunch at Le Jules Verne Restaurant in the Eiffel Tower. In order to reserve our spot, I had to fax over a reservation and payment way in advance. It was quite a splurge for my budget, but I knew the unique experience and the first-rate cuisine would be worthwhile.

While both the food and the view of the city was amazing on its own; what I didn’t expect, was how much the wine would complement that experience. To this day, my memory of that lunch is still closely associated with the wine I ordered.

Being able to savor the wine while taking in the gorgeous views of Paris, was the perfect complement to such an amazing atmosphere.

I opted for a Rhone wine, since it was one of the least expensive wines on the menu. But what a nice surprise this wine was! It was Chateau de Nages Costieres de Nimes. Its rich, full bodied flavor made my experience that much more memorable. It paired perfectly with the view and the ambiance of the restaurant. Being able to savor the wine while taking in the gorgeous views of Paris, was the perfect complement to such an amazing atmosphere. I can’t remember what was served for lunch that day, but I will never forget the richness of the wine and the finish it left, not only on my palate but on my memory!
